Research > Understanding Families

This page has been designed for those who may be thinking about taking part in this project.

The Psychology Centre is looking for families of young people aged 16 to 24 years to be part of a research project. The main goal is to understand what strengths are relevant when a family is facing a challenge. In particular, we would like to explore what helps people to cope when a young family member is “at risk” of suicide.

If you are willing to talk with us as a family, we would like to hear from you. All kinds of families are welcome to participate.

We would like to talk with families where there are
no concerns about mental health or risk of suicide. We would also like to talk to families where there are mental health concerns for a young person, families where a young person has attempted suicide, and families where a young person has been lost to suicide.

If you are unsure whether or not this project is okay for your family, or you would like more information about the project, please look at our information sheet.

I
f you want to talk to someone at the Centre about the project please contact Lyn on 07 834 1520 and she will put you onto one of the project team.

If you want one of the project team to contact you please fill in the Expression of Interest form and post it to us. We have a Freepost address so there is no need to use a stamp, or send it via fax to 07 834 1519.
