About Us

Clinical Staff

We have four clinical psychologists on our staff.

John Fitzgerald M.A. (Keele), M.Sc. (B'ham), PhD (Waikato), MNZPsS, MICP, MNZCCP.
John is also the Centre's Director. He has particular clinical and research interests in general child, adolescent and family mental health, adolescent depression, mental health outcomes, NGO and Primary Care sector service management and delivery.


Philippa Thomas M.Soc.Sci. (Waikato), Dip. Psych. (Clin) (Waikato), MNZPsS, MICP.
Philippa has a background in adult mental health and forensic psychology. At the present time she is involved in lots of supervision, and has a research interest in behavioural activation programmes and mindfulness.


Karma Galyer, BSocSci (Hons), MSocSci, PGDipPsych (Clinical), PhD (Waikato), MNZPsS, MICP.
Prior to arriving at the Centre in 2006 Karma spent six years at the Child Development Centre at Waikato Hospital. Her practice and research interests are focused on child and family care, particularly health and disability concerns for young children.

Juanita Ryan M.A. (Otago), Dip. Clin. Psych. (Otago), MNZPsS.
Juanita is interested in the areas of adult mental health and neuropsychology. Additionally, she is involved in research exploring the effectiveness of primary health based counselling initiatives. She has just submitted her doctorate on concepts of mental health within the local Somali community.



Administration

Lyn Walsh
Lyn is our Centre administrator. She greets people on their arrival, keeps the books, and generally ensures that everything runs smoothly. If you need to know anything about the Centre ... ask Lyn.

Helen Conaglen B.A. (Massey), B.Soc.Sci., M.A., Dip. Clin. Psych., PhD (Waikato), MNZPsS, MICP.
Helen is based at the Centre working on a number of projects. Her specific areas of research focus on sexual dysfunction and psychosexual therapy.
